90's rerun

As we all probably know by now 90's fashion is making a comeback.  It's difficult to go into a shop lately without seeing a crop top of some variety. The ones I'm seeing most frequently are ones like this, the high neck stomach baring crop top.
Even the jumpers in this trend are belly baring, like this one for example

This is a style of top and jumper that I will not be wearing because ,quite simply, I don't have the body to wear it.

Another reason I don't think I'll be embracing this 90's trend is the fact that my 29 year old self remembers the 90's quite clearly....I think I'm just too old for this trend.

Maybe this trend brings back bad memories for me of fashion faux pas of the past, since back in the 90's I was more preoccupied these guys than with fashion

I'd like to know how other people feel though. Is this trend simply for the young and the slim? Do you think there are ways to make it work when you're slightly older?

Outfit Post 13/3/13

So today was my niece's confirmation today, which of course meant I had to wear something nice. Couldn't stroll up to the church in my pj's after all. So I decided to wear this.... apologies for the dodgy "selfie" pictures but I simply don't have a blog photographer so I think I'm going to have to learn to master the "selfie". I like to think of it as the inception of photography..a picture within a picture.

I decided to wear a wine coloured pencil skirt form Dorothy Perkins with a cream top that I bought in Penneys during the January sales for €5, bargain! It's really a casual tshirt type top but I'm a firm believer that any item of clothing can be dressed up or down depending on what you wear it with. Due to the fact that it was fa-ree-zing I had to wear black tights,I simply had to. I also had to go with closed toe shoes so I wore my black shoe boots from Dorothy Perkins that I also wore in this post. My bag is also from Penney's,again bought in the January sales for a whopping €3.
I wore a ring from New Look and a mixture of some bangles from Dorothy Perkins and Penneys.

Because it was so cold (did I mention it was fa-reee-zing?) I,of course, wore a coat. I've had this coat for years,I bought it in Dunnes and it has been such a good investment,I've gotten so much wear out of it.

I decided to go for a pretty natural makeup look, nothing too exciting and recently I've been thinking about getting a new hairstyle so I'm trying to grow my side fringe out(nightmare). Today I parted it down the middle and put some waves in. Is the middle parting a style I should consider? I think I'm kind of liking it. All opinions welcome!

Hope everyone's well

5 quick facts about me.

I love reading blogs where people list little facts about themselves so I decided to do a quick "5 facts" post about me. I'm sure I'll do more posts with more facts again soon.

1. I love shoes,it's an addiction I'm working on keeping under control, but I can't wear a plain and simple court shoe. I seem to have a really narrow foot and shoes won't stay on without some sort of a strap. My feet even fly out of my flat pumps but I still insist on wearing them.

2. I'm a big,ok very big, fan of New Kids on the Block, 80/90''s boyband extraordinaire. I've even been on 3,yes 3, NKOTB cruises and I'd quite like to go on a 4th.

3. I used to weigh quite a lot more than I do now. I'm sure my weight will be something I'll battle with forever. Even though I've lost the bulk of the weight when I'm on a night out or at any social event really, I still feel like the biggest person in the room and wish I were thinner, fitter, healthier etc. I'm not sure that feeling will ever go away.

4. I love penguins, they're one of my favourite things in the world.

5. I have a weird crush on Stephen Merchant. He's funny, gangly and awkward  and I appear to find this combination attractive.

Once Upon A Time

I love a theme, plain and simple, so imagine my joy when my friend Jen (her blog can be found here ) asked me to be part of her college project where I got to be Little Red Riding Hood ! Jen was filming a 1 minute clip of Little Red Riding Hood walking through the woods. The fabulous cape I got to wear was made by Jen herself (she's ever so creative) and she put together my little picnic basket too. All I had to do was add few waves through my hair, put some red lippy on my face ,throw on a black dress and I was good to go. Unfortunately I had to wear my black ballet pumps as my red ones were no where to be found *sad face*  It was a fun day and thankfully the weather was in our favour, even if it was a little cold.Hopefully soon I'll have the finished clip to share.

My dress is from Dorothy Perkins, bought a few years ago. My pumps, tights and the long sleeve top I wore underneath the dress are all from Penneys (last of the big spenders!) and my lipstick (the red lip seems to be the only time I wear lipstick) is no# 01 in the Kate Moss for Rimmel range.

Hope everyone has a good day,

Colette xx

P.s. If you ever get the chance to go into the woods in the middle of the afternoon dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and carrying a picnic basket...take it ! It's worth it just to see peoples reactions when they turn the corner and see you.

2013 Oscars... #DressEnvy

So, did we all watch the Oscars? Me, I think I love the red carpet more than the actual awards ceremony. I could mention a dozen fabulous dresses but some of my favourites were worn by ....

Stacy Kiebler...I love this Naeem Khan dress,I think it's stunning. I do think she could have maybe done something a bit edgier with her hair. I think she could have gone for something sleek,I feel her hair is a bit to girly and romantic for such a "wow" dress. Overall though, she was definitely one of the best dressed and had Clooney too...so much win!

Jennifer Lawrence....Now this is a lot of dress! It may not have been the best to walk up stairs to collect your Oscar in but , hey, who cares. She looked beautiful, the bottom half of this Dior gown is so big and dramatic, the top so fitted that it gave a great shape and silhouette,  it looks like a winners dress! The necklace draped down her back was fab and probably something we'll all now see on so many people.
Jessica Chastain..... Old Hollywood Glamour! If I'd been told a pale red head could pull off this Armani Prive dress and not look washed out I wouldn't have believed it, but I think she totally pulled it off. Love the red lippy, for me it pulls it together ,makes it look glamorous and gives some colour. I may be a bit biased about this look as I simply love, love, love Old Hollywood Glamour!
Naomi Watts..... gorgeous! This metal Armani Prive dress is different but beautiful. The structured top is stunning, unusual and really makes an impact. This is probably a love it or hate it dress but, personally, I love it.

Honourable mention...some dresses that didn't make me go wow but are undeniably beautiful...

Kerry Washington...love the colour and the fabulous detailing on the top half of this Miu Miu dress
Zoe Saldana...again,great detail on top,the belt makes it interesting and the ombre effect bottom half of this Alexis Mabille dress is beautiful
And my least favourite dress of the night was worn by.... Anne Hathaway. She's never the most daring dresser but this Prada dress was surprisingly bland. I'm not a fan of the colour, what was with the seams on the bust and why on earth did she wear that necklace with a dress with such a high neck. I've read that she had a last minute dress change as her first choice,a Valentino dress, was incredibly similar to a dress being worn by another actress. Not a good situation but, really, this was the best option for second choice??
And as if the front wasn't bad enough, what is going on with the back??

And just cos..here's some hot guys in tuxes..enjoy!

Who are you wearing ?

Oscar night tonight! This is my Superbowl, gowns as far as the eye can see.  Is anyone else as excited as me ? Will you be watching the red carpet shows? What will the stars wear , any predictions? Jennifer Lawrence in Dior? Anne Hathaway in Chanel? Clooney in a classic Armani suit ? So many questions....only a few hours until we get answers. I, for one, can't wait!

Monochrome Crazy

I love the fact that the monochrome look is a trend this year. I'm a big fan of wearing black, white, and cream clothes. I've always been a fan of a classic monochrome look. Personally I think that investing in a few pieces for this trend will be money well spent. Having some good black and white pieces in your wardrobe is a no brainer, they'll never go out of style so you'll get years of use out of them. Most people will probably have several items in these colours in their wardrobes already so this is a trend that most of us can wear without spending much money.

I think a blazer is a great investment, a black blazer like this one from Asos is great addition to any wardrobe or this one from Awear will make any outfit look instantly glam.

Accessories are also a great way to update a look and make it on trend. This bag from Awear is great for day time and this clutch from Dorothy Perkins can take you from daytime to night time glam easily.

And just cos it looks so cosy, this jumper from New Look will keep you warm and on trend.

Does anyone else love the monochrome look??

Birthday weekend!

So, Monday was my birthday which meant, naturally, I had to out and celebrate over the weekend.

On Saturday I went out for the night with some friends and decided to wear a black lace dress from Dorothy Perkins.I discovered that I really really like this dress! I like having sleeves and the length was great as I could wear the dress without tights and not feel self conscious (I hate my legs!).I wore a pair of red shoe boots that I bought during the summer in London in a shop that, for the life of me, I cannot remember the name of. Naturally being out and having one or two drinks I never got around to taking a proper outfit pic (blogger fail I know but I'm new at this) but this pic gives an idea of the outfit.
And this one shows the sleeves ..and me blowing out my flameless birthday candle..as you do.
 Shoes!

On Sunday night I went see Mick Flannery perform an acoustic show with a friend. Who's he? I asked the same question. It turns out he's a guy with the most beautiful voice! YouTube him! I wore a black & white playsuit that found in Penney's..on sale. It cost a whopping 7 euro #Bargain! I also wore a black blazer from Oasis that I've had for a few years and a pair of shoe boots (obsessed with shoe boots much?) from Dorothy Perkins. Please ignore the weird look on my face in the following pic, I really must learn how to pose.
And,of course, the shoes

Hope everyone had a good weekend xx

Hats off to Winter

Winter time is my favourite time of year. It has everything I like… long nights, crisp cold days, Christmas and… my birthday! Another one of my favourite things about this time of year is the clothes I get to wear. I’m a big fan of winter accessories, the hats, the gloves, the scarves. I love love love hats, I wish more people wore them.  The chunky knitted bobble hat is, of course, a classic (gotta love a bobble!). I wear bobble hats in two ways. One being the basic “bobble on top of head” way.

The other way I wear it is to unwrap the hat and wear it as a longer hat with the bobble falling down by the side.

Another style of hat I love is the “floppy hat”. I have this style in a few different colours and I love them all! I think these hats have a slightly more fancy feel to them, maybe it’s just me but I feel like much more of a grown up when I’m wearing one of these hats.

And finally, how much do I want to own this hat. Too cute!

Does anyone else love hats as much as me??

Just heading out for a few....

Just a quick post on what I wore while out with friends this weekend. I went a bit more casual this weekend as we were “just heading out for a few”, I decided to go with jeans and a shirt, both from Dorothy Perkins. It being the 1st of December, however, a bit of Christmas sparkle had to be thrown in, it really feels like Christmas time now doesn't it?

I recently rediscovered these boots that I bought last year from Penney's (cheap and cheerful), it seems they’d been thrown aside and forgotten about (shame on me). Finding them was a happy surprise, it was like getting new boots all over again, so they had to get an outing, and they kept my feet toasty warm #winning . If I remember correctly, at the time I bought them they were reduced and only cost me around 12 euro...bargain!

Hope you're all keeping well  xx
